India, Pakistan and QLC
What brings a nation to a standstill?
Amongst other things, a cricket match. India v/s Pakistan. Especially if its the world cup. Such as today. People have taken off from work, the roads are relatively emptier and folks who can’t avoid it are racing to finish their chores in the morning (the match starts at 13.30 hours). The mood is expectant and there is excitement in the air. Yessir, if you are a cricket buff in India, today is the day!
And at QLC? Besides the occasional browser connecting to a cricket site, or the trickling in of the current score (via mysterious channels :)) once the match starts, it is “Men (and women) at Work”.
Work is on for the next enhancement release of IQuinox, scheduled towards the end of this month. A few wrinkles will get ironed out, responsiveness under poor connectivity situations will improve, a couple of minor features will find their way in, and all in all the product should run better and faster.
Additionally, on other parallel activity threads, the development team is upgrading itself with the formal knowledge of design patterns in software engineering. Pretty interesting stuff.
On a more tangible front, I’ve been pushing the development of a web-based project management tool. Our products and services (external and internal) are growing in number, size and complexity; and more people are part of the team now. As a result, we’ve been consciously spending time and energy focusing on issues to maximize manageability and productivity. Processes, based on evolving rules and work patterns is the path we are following. This project management software has the potential to be a significant component in our machinery.
Right now, its geared towards our own specific wants and needs. And is in a continuous state of development. If it turns out to be as useful as I think it can be, I just may make it available to the open-source community. Incidentally, at this point in time its called “SlaveCamp” ;)
IQuinox, design patterns and SlaveCamp. Customer, dear customer, its all for you.
Here’s hoping that India wins! :)
